When do you check your HVAC Air Filter?
You should check your air filter at least once per month. When you check it, look for pet hair, dirt, and dust buildup. If you find that your filter is clean, you can keep it installed and check in a few more weeks. If you filter is clogged and has significant build-up, it’s time to change your filter.
If you have pets that shed significantly, you will find that you will need to change your filter more often. You can purchase a case of pleated filters through Jewell Mechanical, or you can purchase them at your local hardware store.
How do I change my filter?
You will have at least one return vent that pulls the air from your home back into you system. This is the location of your filter(s). Depending on the size of your home and how many units you have, you may have more than one air filter.
Step 1: Unlatch your return vent
Step 2: Remove your dirty filter
Step 3: Place the new filter in the vent, Make sure the arrows on your filter are facing towards your wall or ceiling (Direction of air flow)
Step 4: Re-latch the return vent and dispose of the dirty air filter.
Changing your filter will allow your unit to work at peak efficiency
Changing your air filter regularly will allow fresh air to be circulated through your HVAC system. Catching all of the dust and dirt and not allowing it to make its way through your system will allow your unit to work at peak efficiency. The cleaner your system, the easier it is for it to work properly and to run smoothly.
