In this project, Jewell Mechanical successfully replaced a failing galvanized water main for a residential customer in Brentwood, TN, restoring their water supply and ensuring optimal plumbing functionality.
Water Main Replacement Project Details
Location: Front yard of the customer’s home, Brentwood, TN
Length of Trench Excavated: Approximately 110 feet
Water Main Problem
The old galvanized water main had ruptured in the front yard, leading to a significant drop in water pressure throughout the property. This failure required immediate action to restore the water service.
Project Solution
- Excavation:
Excavation of a trench approximately 110 feet long, carefully navigating around multiple boulders and root systems from nearby trees to minimize damage to the landscape. - Old Water Main Removal:
The old water main was cut just beyond the landscaping bed. - New Pipe Installation:
A new ¾” PEX water main attached to the existing line located in the crawlspace. The new supply line was then carefully maneuvered through the foundation, ensuring that surrounding bushes and landscaping were preserved. - Connection and Testing:
The new PEX main was connected to the existing water meter and tied into the home’s plumbing system. After installation, we restored water service and conducted thorough checks to ensure all plumbing fixtures within the home were functioning properly. - Site Restoration:
After completing the main project, the plumbing service team backfilled the trench with the excavated dirt, leaving a slight mound to accommodate for future settling. To promote grass growth in the disturbed area, we applied grass seed and straw. - Site Cleanup:
All boulders and debris were removed from the site and disposed of properly, leaving the area clean and tidy.
